Looking to Cut Through All the Health and Wellness Noise? Check out My New Podcast!
Because knowledge is power — and feeling good should be your birthright, not a privilege.
Dearest Substack community,
First off, I want to thank you all for your continued support… when I wrote my long-form Medium piece in 2022 about the pharmaceutical industry’s influence on our clinical research, government, and three-letter agencies, I could never have predicted the ripple effect it would have or how many people would take the time to read and share it — including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Dr. Robert Malone, Lew Rockwell, Dr. Aaron Kheriaty, and others. The speed and force with which it spread across the Internet inspired me to start my own Substack, where I continued to explore Big Media's conflicts of interest — and quickly thereafter became very overwhelmed and jaded by the scope of the corruption I was uncovering at every turn. I'm so, so sorry that I wasn't able to fulfill my promise to continue my investigations.
But I do have exciting news to share. I'm launching my own health and wellness podcast where I'll resume digging — this time, into WHY we are so unwell in America and WHAT we can do about it. And the best part is, it's free to listen! The trailer just went live today, and the first batch of episodes goes live on 9.24 — with new content dropping every Tuesday after that. Here’s a link to the show on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
I've been writing about health and wellness for about 10 years now — contributing to outlets like Men's Health, Healthline, Business Insider, Well+Good, and Health.com — and one of the best parts of my job is that I get to interview so many knowledgeable experts about everything from supporting gut and brain health and addressing hormonal imbalances to building muscle and coping with anxiety and ADHD. Oftentimes, only a few of their quotes end up making it into the articles I write, and that’s been frustrating because these conversations typically yield so much valuable wisdom that I know might be relevant to certain people.
60% of Americans are living with at least one chronic disease. Nearly 40% have symptoms of anxiety or depression. 40% of men have prediabetes. 80% of women have some kind of hormone imbalance, and one in five women under 50 are struggling with infertility. And despite all the scientific innovation in recent years and the trillions we spend on healthcare, life expectancy is falling in the U.S. Clearly, something is wrong. But how are we supposed to fix it when emerging health studies reveal contradictory findings; there’s little regulatory oversight on our toxin-laden food, beauty, and household products; and wellness influencers and “experts” are selling us one-size-fits-all solutions to our complex issues? How can we know who to trust?
These questions and conundrums are what drove me to launch Well-Bent. Each week, I’ll be interviewing board-certified doctors, registered dietitians, certified personal trainers, licensed psychotherapists, research scientists, and other credentialed health professionals on a range of topics relevant to some of the most common and pressing health issues we’re facing today.
If you follow this Substack, then you're probably the kind of person who's already well aware that our agricultural system is broken, our soil is depleted, and Big Food has a chokehold on policymakers and regulators. In many ways, it can feel like the odds are stacked against us when it comes to staying healthy. But I promise you, we're not powerless. To that end, Well-Bent is about arming and empowering you with information that you can put to use in your everyday life — like how to minimize your exposure to pesticides on your produce, how to reverse your acid reflux for good so you don't have to rely on proton pump inhibitors (which come with a slew of risks when used long-term), or how to prevent emotional trauma rooted in childhood from sabotaging your adult relationships.
All of us have goals: Maybe you have a family history of Alzheimer's and you want to take steps to reduce your risk of developing this disease. Maybe you’re trying to get pregnant, but having trouble. Maybe you're just getting older and you want to make sure you have enough energy to maintain a fulfilling lifestyle and run around with your future grandkids. Whatever your idea of health or wellness is right now, I hope that Well-Bent can get you one step closer.
Because as Jim Kwik once said — if knowledge is power, then learning is a superpower.
